VINCENT. High quality tube components from this German manufacturer include the new SV-236MK Class A 150 watt Hybrid Integrated Amp and companion CD-S6 Tube HDCD CD Player. Vincent does things a little different: defeatable tone controls on the SV-236MK and their other Integrated Amps and PreAmps, and HDCD and variable outputs on many of their CD Players, including the matching CD-S6. The SV-236MK also has a metal remote, preamp output, and two sets of speaker binding posts. Michael Fremmer of Stereophile preferred the Vincent SV-236 MK to a very good power amp costing more than 3 times the price and calls the Vincent "the kind of component that gives me...hope for the future of this great hobby." EPOS has released their new ELS8 monitor and it has already received a rave review from The Absolute Sound. HEGEL utilizes its patented Sound Engine Technology to do "dynamic real-time cancelling of error in the system." The "Sound Engine Technology" utilizes a "threshold detector," which identifies, calculates, and eliminates error in the playback chain. This translates to a more transparent sound to the source. Reviewers seem to agree that the CDP 2A CD player and H1mk4 Integrated amp, both which retail for $2995, have unusual transparency and low distortion. A slight richness to the mid bass is the only preceptible coloration, if it can be called that. Build quality is impeccible, styling is modern and handsome, sound quality excellent, and value is very high.
